Initially, Annette had planned to let 2024 Loire Valley by ombiasy WineTours end in Orléans. But during the February 2024 "scouting trip", Annette decided to let the tour end in Paris and have the last group dinner in Sancerre.

Our last dinner will be at La Tour Restaurant right in the center of Sancerre. It is a Michelin-listed restaurant, which was recommended to us by Chef Swen Bultmannwho owns and runs with his wife Sybille Bultmann Atable im Amtshaus in Freinsheim in the Pfalz, also a Michelin-listed restaurant which in my view should be Michelin-starred. So, after the decision to have the final dinner in Sancerre, towrads the end of the "scouting trip" in Februaray, Annette tried to get a reservation at La Tour Restaurant in Sancerre. But it was "complet".

starwinelist.com: Restaurant La Tour is a fine-dining gem right on the main square in Sancerre. The food is elegant in a French tradition and combines minimalism with a depth of flavours. You can either order à la carte or choose one of the three tasting menus – Promenade, Pleasure or Confidence.

This wine list is a feast for every wine lover, with great depth both when it comes to styles, regions and vintages. An extraordinary width of wines from Sancerre, both whites and reds, but also a lot of great wines from both from the rest of Loire and elsewhere in France.

Thus, we decided to go to Au P'tit Goûter in Chavignol, which I had discovered when we were in Chavignol and which I found very inviting. We took our car and went back to Chavignol.

We had a great time at Au P'tit Goûter, a friendly little bistro right in the middle of Chavignol. Everything was there: the good ambiance, the good, home-made food, the good Sancerre wines and the good humor of Jérémy and Jérôme - without forgetting the little dog Tuscany.

Domaine Francois Cotat Sancerre Blanc Les Monts Damnes 2016

closdesmillesime.com: Francois Cotat is a winemaker located in the commune of Chavignol , within the Sancerre appellation in the Loire Valley . The Cotat family has been renowned in the region since the 1940s and their cousin Pascal Cotat also produces wine in Sancerre. François Cotat manages 3 hectares of vines: 1/3 Pinot Noir, 2/3 Sauvignon Blanc. The vineyard is cultivated on clay-limestone hillsides, with a unique type of chalky soil called "white lands". It is not uncommon to see the wines of François Cotat under the status of Vin de France, since he tends not to follow the regulations of the Sancerre appellation (higher level of residual sugar or alcohol).

Les Monts Damnés cuvée   comes from Sauvignon Blanc vines over 35 years old. The vinification method is traditional: fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts in vats and barrels, followed by aging for a few months. The wine is racked according to the lunar cycle and is neither fined nor filtered before bottling.
Grape variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

LOIRE VALLEY: Sunday, June 09 - Thursday June 20, 2024

Annette Schiller: What comes to your mind when you hear ‘Loire Valley’? Of course images of glorious Châteaux pop up in your mind. Yes that is true and we will visit some iconic château and dig deep into France’s history. However, during this wine tour we also discover a magnificent, but often overlooked French wine region and one of the most exciting best kept secrets of excellent, high quality wines at very reasonable prices. The Loire Valley wine region is a vast area and consists of several distinct wine regions, each with its own characteristic grapes, appellations, and wine style. We take you on a journey from the Atlantic Ocean to the Auvergne mountains to explore this unique region. We learn to appreciate “Sancerre”, "Pouilly-Fumé", “Vouvray", “Chinon”, as well as many other not so familiar appellations.
