The Wine Spectator released a most interesting list of restaurant recommendations with the focus on wine for New York City (October 6, 2015). I am re-issueing the list. These are 9 top restaurants with top wine lists.

Few Wine Spectator Grand Award winners carry quite as much history as the '21' Club, a Prohibition-era holdover that for decades has attracted the city's elite to its casual dining room and vaultlike wine cellar. The wine list consists of 1,430 selections, drawn from a cellar holding 20,000 bottles. The heart of the list is—and always has been—French, with red Bordeaux ruling the unique cellar, which is reached though a secret entrance in the basement.

Guests of A Voce Columbus are treated to a transcendent view of Central Park and its surrounding skyline. But it's hard to take one's eyes away from the stylish, modern interior, which incorporates the restaurant's wine storage into the design with glass-encased walls that display much of the 8,550-bottle on-site inventory. The wine list is Italy-driven and complements executive chef Riccardo Bilotta's creative take on traditional Italian cuisine.

From the moment you enter Daniel Boulud's flagship restaurant until the time you leave, hours later, every element at play in this temple of French haute cuisine combines to produce a truly profound dining experience. It's hard to decide which takes precedence—the stellar food, the grand dining room or the smart staff, who deliver the goods with flawless precision. The 2,000-selection wine list covers chef Boulud's native France, with depth in many of the best regions. But it is a modern—and American—restaurant too, so other countries are also well-represented.

With chef Daniel Humm's elegant and ever-evolving cuisine, Cedric Nicaise's 3,300-selection wine list and restaurateur Will Guidara's fine-tuned dining room staff, Eleven Madison Park is truly an exceptional place. Wines are served in varietal-specific Riedel glasses, and bottles are carefully decanted at the sommelier's or guest's discretion. If a guest's gaze isn't directed at the food and wine on the table for the duration of the 12-plus-course tasting menu, it's more likely that he or she is admiring the view through the tall westward windows, which frame the setting sun over Madison Square Park, or the grand, marble-floored, high-ceilinged Art Deco space.

With 800 of its 2,100 selections priced at less than $100, the list at Pearl & Ash, which has strength in Champagne, Burgundy and the Loire, offers an abundance of options. The clientele ranges from wine novices to wealthy wine collectors to sommeliers of other top restaurants, all of whom are focused on the wine. But the food, presented in small plates meant for sharing, should not be overlooked. The cuisine mixes far-ranging flavors and textures in both traditional and surprising efforts.

Thomas Keller's Per Se overlooks Columbus Circle at the intersection of Central Park South and Broadway, where sparkling skyline meets cherry blossoms each spring. Guests enjoy one of the best views in the city and an equally impressive nine-course tasting menu, prepared daily by chef de cuisine Eli Kaimeh. With the help of an iPad wine list, guests can browse or search wine director Michel Couvreux's 2,300-selection collection that's focused on Old World classics from Burgundy and Bordeaux, along with Italy, Spain, Austria and Germany.

The Lower Manhattan stalwart, co-owned by Robert De Niro and restaurateur Drew Nieporent, harbors an exciting wine cellar in its snug, serpentine basement. The restaurant has always taken wine seriously, as longtime wine director David Gordon, who has been with Tribeca Grill since it opened in 1990, won his first Best of Award of Excellence in 1998 and a Grand Award four years later. The patriotic 2,200-selection list focuses largely on California Cabernet, but also boasts an impressive selection of enviable bottlings from the Rhône, Burgundy and Bordeaux. It also features a page titled "Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year," showcasing the No. 1 wine in our Top 100 lists from various years going back to 1989.
