The Eichelmann WeinGuide Deutschland 2025 - one of the 5 main wine
guides in Germany (along with Vinum, Gault&Millau, Feinschmecker and
Falstaff) - was released in November 2024 in Heidelberg.
In the Eichelmann WeinGuide Deutschland 2025, Gerhard Eichelmann
presents almost 1000 winemakers and reviews more than 11000 wines. For
the rating of the winemakers, he employs a system that awards a
winery up to five stars, where 5 stars indicate “world class, top
international producers”. There are 42 German
winemakers in this group.
Additionally, in each issue of the Eichelmann WeinGuide Deutschland a
(1) Rising Star and a (2) Discovery of the Year as well as the producers of the best
collections of (3) red wines, (4) white wines, and (5)
sparkling wines are named. Further, Gerhard Eichelmann presents (6) a
“Classic of the Year” Wine and (7) an Honorary Award for Lifetime
Achievement.
42 producers received the maximum of 5 out of 5 stars in the Eichelmann Deutschlands Weine 2025 (Weltklasse/ world class).
Interestingly, the list of winemakers from Baden is relatively long in the Eichelmann ranking and the list of winemakers from the Pfalz extremely short. The following wine regions do not appear in the list below, i.e. there is no winemaker with 5 stars: Mittelrhein, Saale-Unstrut, Sachsen, Hessische Bergstrasse.
Further, elsewhere regarded as superstars, Weingut Zilliken, Weingut JJ Prüm and Weingut Egon Müller from the Mosel region, known for their ultra-premium sweet-style wines, are not in Eichelmann's 5 stars group of winemakers.
