Dear friends and fellow travelers,
I think it is important that you hear from me how I assess the situation in southern Germany and Alsace and what my plans are for the tour in view of the Corona virus.
I am currently in Frankfurt, Germany and monitor the situation closely. Both Germany and France have 2.300 cases each as of today. The “Grand East” region in France is the most hit and the Alsace (300 cases as of today) belongs to the "Grand Est”. The regions we are traveling to in Germany: Mainz, Rheinhessen, Pfalz, eastern Baden are not hit very hard with just a few cases.
There are still 2 months to go before the tour starts and I am under the impression that the situation in Germany and France will have stabilized by then. The infrastructure of the health sector (hospitals, test kits, test centers, etc) in both countries is very well prepared for handling the situation. The governments and local authorities are constantly monitoring the situation and put in effect school and university closings, as well as cancellations of cultural events such as theaters, concerts, opera performances, etc. to reign in the contamination.
At this point I am planning to go ahead with the tour as planned. I am monitoring the situation on a daily basis and will keep you posted regularly.
I was planning to travel to the US next week but in view of the restriction the US government put in place for travel from the EU I will stay in Frankfurt, hence I keep my ears to the ground on this side of the big pond.
Cheers
Annette
