Dear wine lovers,
the world becomes more crazy as the days go on. Unfortunately the world’s largest wine fair “Prowein” taking place every year in early March in Düsseldorf, Germany, and which I was looking forward to visiting this year, has been cancelled due to the threat of spreading the Corona virus. Some people are disappointed, others think it is a very wise decision to reign in the possibility of infecting more people in order to see the light at the end of the tunnel faster.
It is so important to enjoy life and I am very much looking forward to June when I travel to the Rhône Valley with a small group. The tour is 90% full. I have one room (dbl or sgl occupancy) left, so hurry up if you want a great wine experience.
Join us as we explore in detail the wines of the Rhône Valley. We start in vibrant, cool, sophisticated Lyon, the capital of Haut Cuisine. We stop in the Northern Rhône where names such as Côte Rôtie, Crozes-Hermitage make us crave a glass of wine. We follow the eponymous Rhône river south to Avignon, the city that was the seat of the papacy for the better part of the 14th century. We spend two nights in Châteauneuf du Pape exploring the famous wines. We do a side-kick to the foot of the gorgeous Dentelles de Montmirail where we find the wines of Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Séguret, and the sweet wines of Rasteau and Baumes de Venice, and of course we visit famous Roman sites such as the Pont du Gard and the city of Arles where we also trace van Gogh’s steps. The southern Rhône belongs to Provence. Provence: this immediately ignites a deep yearning for the fragrance coming from purple Lavender fields - which are blooming at the time our tour -, for the special light the Impressionist artists masterfully captured in their paintings, for a very special "savoir vivre", and for the dark red, fruity, spicy wines.
Come with us if you want a highly professional but at the same time very personal tour where you meet winemakers, owners, vineyard managers who voluntarily answer all the questions you always had about Rhône wines.
Before I forget: The tour runs from June 08 to June 17, 2020. I meet the group in Lyon and drop you off in Avignon where you can board the non-stopTGV to catch your flight at the Paris airport.
