The Hotel and the Michelin-starred Restaurant Michel Chabran occupy a central place in the village of Pont-de-l'Isère, not far from Valence. Since 1935, generations of Chabran have succeeded one another and cultivated the art of receiving. A haven of happiness on the RN7.
We had lunch there. Annette had chosen the Menu du Jour of the Espace Gourmand, the second restaurant of Michel Chabran, but we were seated in the La Grand Table de Michel Chabran Restaurant.
We took the tea in the beautiful garden. Chef Michel Chabran joined us there and talked with us about his philosophy of cooking.

Guide MICHELIN 2019 - Espace Gourmand de Michel Chabran
Un "espace gourmand" au sein de la maison Chabran, véritable institution de la gastronomie régionale. On s'installe face au jardin et sous la véranda, dans une salle oblongue au sol en pierre et murs en galets, au centre de laquelle trône un poêle. Salade de pommes de terre aux truffes ; aiguillettes de filet de bœuf poêlé, jus léger ; soufflé au Grand Marnier, ou encore cette belle épaule d'agneau confite aux olives : une sympathique alternative à la table gastronomique, autour de formules volontairement festives et décontractées, à l'image des petites portions à partager. Quand Michel Chabran dit « on ne se plaint pas », il faut comprendre que tout va bien, que le moment est doux, et même excellent, pour tous les convives de cette salle bourgeoise au bord de la Nationale 7. Tout un symbole, que cette étape épicurienne où chaque chose a sa place a évolué dans son époque grâce à ce visionnaire, qui a toujours su organiser l'offre (son Espace Gourmand, bientôt disponible directement depuis la Nationale, est une belle friandise de simplicité raffinée) en s'appuyant sur sa famille autant que sur son sens du progrès. Avec Louis, son fils, il passe d'une décennie à la suivante avec le même amour des bonnes choses, les truffes en hiver (sa salade de pommes de terre est un régal), les crustacés en été, les plus belles volailles, les gibiers et, chaque saison, de jolies idées nouvelles (les rougets et châtaignes l'automne dernier) et les petites merveilles viticoles de ses amis Combier, Colombo, Courbis, dans cette généreuse vallée du Rhône dont il est un des papes incontestables.
